Instead of throwing out or bagging up (to gather dust) all those clothes children quickly grow out of this is a brilliant website to buy or sell unwanted children clothes. It is run by a busy mum who also knows what it’s like with ever growing children and the endless amount of clothes children accumulate.

‘Last year a quarter of the clothing we got rid of was simply thrown away. That’s a staggering 300,000 tonnes that went into landfill. So many of those items could have been re-used and enjoyed by a another child, instead of contributing to the destruction of the planet.’

CrowdLeaf Newsletter 23rd November 2017

Welcome to this weeks Crowdleaf Newsletter. Our aim at Crowdleaf is to try and make a positive impact on people, to give the facts about the current state of the climate, environment, wildlife and conservation and about sustainability. We also aim to be able to find different ways to become greener.

Climate Change

Norweigan Central Bank has told it’s government to ‘dump it’s shares’ in oil and gas companies.

 https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/nov/16/oil-and-gas-shares-dip-as-norways-central-bank-advises-oslo-to-divest

After all of the extreme weather America has experienced recently, more Americans are worried about the effects of climate change. With only 54% of American’s understanding that climate change is caused by human beings, it just goes to show how important it is to making the message clear about how and why the climate is changing.

Environment, Wildlife and Conservation

With an estimated 12,000 tonnes of plastic being dumped into the sea each year, a tax on single use plastics could be a good start to tackling the ocean pollution.

 https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/nov/18/uk-considers-tax-on-single-use-plastics-to-tackle-ocean-pollution

This is a similar article to above but tells more about the impact on the sealife. Whales dying from our plastic pollution – David Attenborough’s hard hitting message from the Blue Planet 2 episode on Sunday 19th November.

With the pollution in our oceans becoming so serious and the amount of harm it’s causing to our sealife etc, we all really need to start taking responsibility and doing every little thing we can to reduce this. In the case of take away coffee cups – there are reusable ones! – just take them home and wash up ready for the next takeaway drink. Again, straws – invest in reusable ones, you can also get handy little tiny brushes to help clean them properly. Every little really does help and if everyone would follow suit things could start to really change.

The Keystone Pipeline leakes 210,000 gallons of oil right before the Nebraska Public Service Commission is due to make a final decision on whether to allow an extension called the Keystone XL which will link Canada’s Alberta Oil to big refineries in the U.S. This is what locals to the pipeline have been fearing to happen and have been resisting the extension due to the impact such a leak can have to loacal water supply, to the environment and wildlife.

A new study has showed that there has been a sharp drop in male fertility and poor sperm quality. The high levels of air-pollution could be the cause of this.

Sustainability

One of the UK’s nurseries ban the use of glitter to help the environment. The common arts and craft accessory is a micro plastic that has been found in foods and is poisonous for humans, can cause fertility problems and affect the immune system.
